Travel Consultations

Travel health advice, Immunizations, and Medications, all in one convenient stop.

  • Why book a travel consultation?

You’ve booked the trip now what? Preparations aren’t only about outlining an amazing itinerary, making the reservations, and deciding what swimsuit to pack. You have to keep your health and well-being in mind when planning to set out. If you have any medical conditions or are prone to fall sick at certain destinations, you should be prepared with the right medications and vaccinations to make the most of your trip!

  • When to book a travel consultation?

Since many immunizations must be given well in advance of travel or as part of a series we recommend scheduling your visit at least 6-8 weeks before your departure. However, if you have limited time before departure, we will provide you with health advice, vaccinations and prescriptions appropriate for “the last minute traveler”.

  • What to Expect

During your travel consultation, you will meet with our pharmacist who is certified in travel health medicine. You will receive medical guidance specific to your travel plans and tips on how to stay healthy, for example:

Personalized recommendations for the vaccinations and medications required for your trip such as hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid, yellow fever, meningitis, Japanese encephalitis, traveller’s diarrhea, cholera, and more

Recommendations for boosters for routine immunizations such as tetanus, influenza, or Covid-19

    Administration of vaccines

Reminder service to ensure completion of vaccine booster doses

Assessments and prescriptions for the prevention of malaria, traveler’s diarrhea and altitude illness

When to treat travellers’ diarrhea with antibiotics

    Food and water precautions

How to protect yourself against insect-borne diseases

What over-the-counter medications to take with you

  • What it will cost

There are fees associated with Travel Health appointments, travel vaccinations, and vaccines as travel medicine is not covered by Alberta Health. Some private insurance companies might provide coverage for certain travel vaccinations. We can direct bill your insurance or provide you with a receipt for your records and it may or may not be accepted by your insurance company.

Fees for a travel consultation range from $45.00 - $60, depending on the complexity of your travel, and do not include the cost of travel vaccinations. Payment must be received before services are rendered.

A $20 injection fee is associated with each travel injection.

Payment is made at the time of service.
